My office is in California. The state sales tax is 7.5% and each city may have additional sales tax. I contacted the California Board of Equalization and they do not have a table of zip codes and tax rates. How do online stores in CA calculate and report the correct tax rate for each municipality?

Avalera is the only one I have heard about.

Thanks for the link. At $1 per transaction, that could get expensive for sites that sell high-volume low-priced items.

Since you have a physical location in CA, California does not require you to pay the sale tax per each area, unlike other states for general goods (Autos are a bit different).

And if you look at the form from the California Board of Equalization it does not support this.

And remember that state auditors are looking for money, think 80/20 when they do an audit.

I am not a CPA, so any advice above is not accounting / financial advice. I am married to one. I looked into it, and the rules are confusing...
